All week the students at Chantry Academy have been taking part in activities about Remembrance Day. Students have had the opportunity to reflect on their own losses by writing a memory or a ‘Thank you’ message on a small poppy and then place it on a larger Memorial Poppy. The Academy Chaplain Ant Cartwright said ‘I was so thrilled with the response, all those who participated were so respectful. ‘
On Friday the 11th November all students who were active members of any military group were in school in their full military uniform. At 11am Ms Denny (Head of Music) stood in the centre of the school and played the Last Post and the Academy fell silent as a mark of respect.
Our Head Boy and Girl along with our Year 10 deputies and our Assistant Principal, Mr Greenwood, will be taking part in the Remembrance Service at the Ipswich War Memorial in Christchurch Park on Sunday and will be laying a wreath on behalf of the Academy.
Mr D’Cunha, Principal said “I am very proud of our students. They feel that this day is one not only to reflect upon the sacrifice made to secure our freedoms, but also the important role the community play in coming together to pay their respects.”
