New Head Boy and Head Girl announced!
We are delighted to have announced our Head Boy and Head Girl for 2026/7 in a special all school assembly.
Head Boy, Alex, and Head Girl, Mariya, were appointed following a student and staff vote.
In the same assembly, 16 prefects were also announced and our new house system officially started. This is the first time in recent years that we have had school houses.
The houses proudly reflect Chantry’s connection to the local area – named after local rivers Belstead, Orwell, Gipping and Fynn – and every student in the school will receive a pin badge which showcases their house crest and colours.
Lots of activities will run as part of the new house system, including sporting events and awards for house points which will be collected over the term.
The house system has been created to support a strong sense of belonging and pride in the local community, as well as encouraging friendly competition. It also helps incentivise good behaviour and creates leadership opportunities for older students as they support those in younger year groups.
“I didn’t think I would get chosen and when I was selected the first thing I did was hug my best friend! I am really proud of myself. I was nervous doing my speech but the teachers supported me and encouraged me through.
My focus over the next few months is to bridge the communication between students and staff so students continue to open up to teachers and recognise they are more than teachers. I want students to utilise the time they have at school to build friends and a community.”
Mariya, Head Girl
“I am extremely grateful for being chosen, and for being given this opportunity. It was a strong group and I would have been happy for whoever was chosen. Moving forward, I would like to support and implement extra revision and interventions.”
Alex, Head Boy
“This has been a landmark week for Chantry Academy as we celebrate the appointment of our new student leaders and officially launch our house system. Our Head Boy, Head Girl and prefect team have earned these positions through their commitment, character and willingness to make a positive difference to the lives of others. They embody the values we want to see in all our students.
The introduction of our houses, Belstead, Orwell, Gipping and Fynn, is about much more than competition. It is about creating a stronger sense of belonging, building pride in our local community and providing opportunities for students of all ages to work together, support one another and develop as leaders. We are excited to see the enthusiasm already being shown and look forward to the positive impact the house system will have across the academy in the years ahead.”
